Caregiving is a demanding task, and it is easy to neglect your own health and well being when you are involved with your loved one's needs. Caregivers need time off from their caregiving responsibilities to relieve stress and prevent burnout.  At IRCCC, a family member or other individual who cares for someone with a disability or chronic illness may be eligible for our respite services.  Check out our Direct Family Access Respite Program which offers advocacy and financial assistance, and allows families to choose and train their own respite provider. 

Crisis Child Care is a volunteer partnership with parents in crisis to strengthen families and prevent abuse and neglect.  Crisis Child Care is free of charge to all families, regardless of income.  It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and offers safe, temporary shelter for children in times of family crisis or overwhelming stress.  The program provides a base of stability for children in vulnerable circumstances, using childcare providers who are trained in offering supportive care to children under stress.  Check out where crisis care is currently available in Iowa.

In addition to meeting the immediate physical and emotional needs of children, staff help families to identify underlying causes of their stress, and mobilize all available resources in securing additional assistance.   Please join me and others to create an awareness of IRCCC throughout Iowa by telling others about these programs or signing up to be a member.  The more families who know there is somewhere to turn in time of need, the more we can help!  Thank you!
